A former bus driver has been awarded over £16,000 in compensation after successfully claiming unfair dismissal at an employment tribunal, reports The Courier.
Graeme Brannan had been dismissed on the grounds of misconduct by his employer, National Express Dundee, after the bus he was driving crashed into a parked car.
Mr Brannan claimed that accident was caused by the throttle on his bus getting stuck, a fact verified by an inspector from the Government's Vehicle and Operator Services Agency. However an internal investigation by National Express Dundee decided that the accident was Mr Brannan's fault, and the company dismissed him.
According to The Courier, the tribunal ruled that the employer had not carried out a sufficient investigation into the incident and upheld Mr Brannan's unfair dismissal claim.
