The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) has released guidance aimed at assisting employers deal with business transfers. It is hoped the guidance with help its readers better understand the Transfer of Undertakings Regulations (TUPE), which protect employees' rights when a business or undertaking is transferred or taken over.


New TUPE rules come into force

Changes to the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE), which protect the employment terms and conditions of employees who are transferred from one organisation to another, came into force at the end of January this year.


The European Commission has released the results of an evaluation to identify excessive burdens, overlaps, gaps or inconsistencies which may have appeared since the adoption of three EU Directives regarding information and consultation of workers.


In its response to a government call for evidence on the Transfer of Undertakings and Protection of Employment (TUPE) regulations, the TUC has warned that weakening TUPE risks driving down pay and increasing unemployment.
