One hundred and seventeen former employees of a Borders knitwear firm have been awarded over £350,000 compensation after an Edinburgh employment tribunal ruled that they had been made redundant illegally.
According to the Herald, their employer had failed to go through the statutory 90-day consultation process, and instead had informed the employees that they were redundant with immediate effect. The tribunal judge did not accept the employer's reasons for failing to carry out the required consultation exercise, and awarded each employee 90 days pay in compensation.
