TUC warns against Government employment review proposals

Commenting on the government's review of employment law, the TUC has welcomed the proposed extension of the right to request flexible working, but has expressed concerns about other proposals up for review.

TUC General Secretary, Brendan Barber, said that: "High levels of compensation for discrimination are only awarded in severe cases. It is right that people who have lost out through the unfair practices of their employer receive proper compensation - and that helps ensure employers act fairly in the first place. Taking a discrimination case is not easy and requires expert legal advice.”

Mr. Barber also expressed concerns about the proposal to review the collective redundancy consultation period, stating that it could allow less time to come up with alternatives to job losses.
