Employment tribunal statistics

The Ministry of Justice has published detailed Employment Tribunal statistics for 1st April 2010 to 31st March 2011.

 

The figures show that there was an 8% decrease in the number of claims received compared to the previous year, and a 9% increase in the number of claims disposed of. Of the claims disposed of, 32% were withdrawn, 29% were Acas conciliated and 12% were won at Tribunal.

 

The Tribunals Service received 382,400 jurisdictional claims, which is a 3% drop over the previous year. The most common jurisdictions include:

  • Working time directive (30%).
  • Unfair dismissal, breach of contract and redundancy (28%).
  • Unauthorised deductions from wages (19%).

 

The figures also revealed which jurisdictions had seen the biggest increase in number of claims:

  • Age discrimination claims increased by 32%.
  • Claims concerning the Part-time Workers Regulations almost trebled.
  • Working Time Regulations claims increased by 20%.
