UNISON and the City of Edinburgh Council have agreed an equal pay deal for up to three thousand council staff.

The average 50-year-old man earns nearly 60% more than the average 50-year-old woman, with an £11,000 earnings gender gap hitting women’s retirement saving, new research conducted for MetLife shows.

Introducing quotas to increase women's representation in political, administrative and business bodies and reducing the pay gap between women and men to respond to the current crisis are among the many proposals that have been approved by the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights.
