Link Found Between Productivity and Workplace Happiness

A recent study from the University of Warwick has noted that there is direct correlation between happiness in the workplace and productivity.

According to the research, the productivity of workers can increase by up to 12% depending on the attitude of the workplace, the treatment they receive and their overall level of management and job satisfaction.

The study, which was reported in The Guardian was carried out by the University of Warwick and analysed the relationship between productivity and happiness. The study stated that it was crucial that employees felt safe in their environment and that they had a decent level of job security. If supported in their place of work, the study showed that they would become more productive and thrive on a professional level.

Despite the information showing that there are many reasons for staff morale to increase, there are also a number of factors that can affect morale and lead to employment issues.

Improving Workplace Relations with Staff

Areas that are ever-changing and continually evolving such sales and event management, in particular, benefited from higher morale and energy in the workplace. Socialising, having positive feedback from managers and building of a team atmosphere are all proven to benefit productivity. Despite the steps that can be taken to improve positivity and staff relations, the report highlighted the difficulty of motivating staff and keeping them happy during the summer months. Customer spending is at a high in the summer, however, if the weather is sunny outside the report found that staff can struggle to be productive.

However, the sun is not the only thing that can prove to be detrimental to productivity with dismissals, harassment or unfair dismissals, losing a member of a team of staff issues not being properly dealt with also proving to be bad for productivity.

Unfair Dismissals and Harassment in the Workplace

If you have been mistreated or harassed in the workplace, you could be able to take legal action against your employer. Employers must ensure that every member of staff is cared for and that the conditions are suitable for everyone. While employers have a duty to ensure every member of staff is treated fairly; sadly this is not always the case in the workplace.

If you have been overlooked for promotion, suffered discrimination or harassment in the workplace as a result of your gender, race, age or sexual orientation, of if you have been unfairly dismissed or not given adequate reason for your dismissal, you could be entitled to take legal action.
